Di-10-ASP-PS is a neutrally charged, lipophilic, potentiometric fluorescent probe for cell membranes. Di-10-ASP-PS is essentially non-fluorescent in aqueous solution but exhibits a strong fluorescence enhancement upon insertion into cell membranes. The excitation and fluorescence emission are variable and are environmentally sensitive and are sensitive to membrane electrical potential. In methanol, Di-10-ASP-PS is optimally excited near 497 nm with fluorescence emission near 616 nm. .
