5-Nitro BAPTA, free acid is a cell-impermeant form of the metal chelator, BAPTA, that has low affinity for calcium and has been used to buffer Ca²⁺ in cells. 5-Nitro BAPTA, free acid may be used as an intracellular Ca²⁺ buffer for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca²⁺ and may also be used to buffer extracellular calcium ions and to formulate calcium buffers with defined Ca²⁺ concentrations. 5-Nitro BAPTA, free acid can also be used as a synthetic building block for novel ion-indicators or may be used to prepare novel esterified products as cell permeant ion buffers or indicators.
