5',5-Difluoro BAPTA, tetrapotassium salt is a water-soluble, cell membrane-impermeant metal chelator that is relatively selective for Ca²⁺ ions. 5',5-Difluoro BAPTA, tetrapotassium salt is commonly used as an intracellular Ca²⁺ buffer for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca²⁺ and may also be used to buffer extracellular calcium ions and to formulate calcium buffers with defined Ca²⁺ concentrations. The fluorine groups are NMR active and have been used for monitoring intracellular Ca²⁺ transient concentrations in live cells by NMR. 5',5-Difluoro BAPTA, tetrapotassium salt may be loaded into live cells by microinjection, patch pipette infusion, scrape loading, bead loading, or ATP-induced permeabilization.
