Desthiobiotin-PEG3-Azide is an Alkyne probe for labeling biological molecules using click chemistry. Click chemistry describes a class of chemical reactions that use bio-orthogonal or biologically unique moities to label and detect a molecule of interest using a two-step procedure. The two-step reaction procedure involves a copper-catalyzed triazole formation of an azide and an alkyne. Click chemistry was first fully described by K. Barry Sharpless, Hartmuth Kolb, Valery Fokin of The Scripps Research Institute and M.G. Finn of Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001 and describes chemistry tailored to generate substances quickly and reliably by joining small units together. Click chemistry is not a single specific reaction, but was meant to mimic nature, which also generates substances by joining small modular units. .
