Dansyl-C2-maleimide is a short-wavelength, green-fluorescent, environmentally sensitive, thiol-reactive dye. Dansyl-C2-maleimide is selective for reaction with thiol groups on peptides, proteins, and other thiol-containing biomolecules when reacted at pH below 7.5. Conjugates of Dansyl-C2-maleimide have an environmentally sensitive fluorescence emission and a large Stokes shift. Dansyl-C2-maleimide conjugates are excited near 328 nm and have an environmentally dependent emission near 547 nm.
