5-TAMRA Carbonyl Azide is an orange-fluorescent dye that may be used to label alcohols and amines in organic solvents. Carbonyl azides undergo a rearrangement to isocyanates when heated to above 80 °C in an organic solvent like DMF, toluene, or 1,4-dioxane. Isocyanates are very reactive and combine with alcohols to yield a stable urethane linkage and with amines to yield a stable urea linkage. Conjugates of 5-TAMRA Carbonyl Azide are excited near 545 nm with a fluorescence emission near 578 nm. 5-TAMRA fluorescence is insensitive to environmental pH and is relatively photostable.
