TMA-DPH is a cationic derivative of the fluorescent membrane probe, DPH. TMA-DPH is non-fluorescent in aqueous environments and exhibits a strong fluorescence enhancement upon binding to cell membranes. The cationic TMA group ensures that the probe is anchored at the lipid-water interface with the DPH fluorophore intercalated between the upper portions of the fatty acyl chains. TMA-DPH is useful for investigations of cell membrane fluidity and lipid ordering by fluorescence polarization and fluorescence anisotropy techniques. TMA-DPH is excited near 355 nm with fluorescence emission near 430 nm. .
