BAPTA, AM is a cell membrane-permeant derivative of BAPTA, a high-affinity, calcium selective chelator. BAPTA, AM is used to control the levels of intracellular Ca2+ for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca2+. Live cells are passively loaded with BAPTA, AM by incubation with cell-permeant AM esters. Once internalized, cytosolic esterases cleave the AM esters to liberate the active tetra-carboxylate ligand. .
