5,5'-Dibromo BAPTA, tetrapotassium salt is a water-soluble, cell membrane-impermeant metal chelator that is relatively selective for Ca2+ ions. 5,5'-Dibromo BAPTA, tetrapotassium salt is commonly used as an intracellular Ca2+ buffer for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca2+ and may also be used to buffer extracellular Ca2+ and to formulate calcium buffers with defined Ca2+ concentrations.
