Azide-fluor 488 is a green-fluorescent dye that is reactive with terminal alkynes using copper catalyzed click chemisty. Click chemistry is favored for labeling and detection of target molecules because the highly selective labeling reaction is fast and efficient with few side products, requires no special solvents or temperatures, and yields a stable linkage between the target and the label. Although Azide-fluor 488 is relatively photostable and its fluorescence is insensitive to pH between 4 and 9, Azide-fluor 488 is not recommended for protein labeling due to fluorescence quenching and limited solubility of the conjugates. Azide-fluor 488 is excited near 502 nm with a fluorescence emission near 527 nm. .
