MDCC is a short-wavelength, blue-fluorescent, thiol-reactive dye for synthesis of blue fluorescent biomolecules. The maleimide group is selective for reaction with thiol groups on peptides, proteins, and other thiol-containing biomolecules when reacted at pH below 7.5. MDCC has been used to prepare a fluorescent biosensor for monitoring conversion of ATP to ADP in real time with high sensitivity. Conjugates of MDCC are excited near 418 nm with fluorescence emission near 465 nm. .
