TFPAM-3 is a heterobifunctional, photoreactive crosslinking reagent. The maleimide group is relatively selective for reaction with thiol groups on amino acids, peptides, proteins, and thiol-modified nucleotides when reacted at pH less than pH 7.5. The fluorinated aryl azide group is activated by illumination with short wavelength UV light to yield an electron-deficient aryl nitrene that is reactive with nucleophiles and commonly yields C-H insertion reaction products. TFPAM-3 is useful for investigations of ligands and receptors, the molecular composition of biological assemblies, as well as protein structures, functions and conformational changes. .
