SFB is a heterobifunctional crosslinker reagent for introducing aromatic aldehyde groups onto biomolecules. The succinimidyl ester is reactive with primary amines on peptides, proteins, modified nucleotides, biopolymers and other amine containing biomolecules and yields a robust amide linkage. The aldehyde group is reactive with aromatic and alkyl primary amines and yields a reversible Schiff base product. The Schiff base can be reduced to a stable amine derivative using a mild reducing agent like sodium borohydride or sodium cyanoborohydride. .
