7-Hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin-3-acetic acid is a non-activated, blue-fluorescent, amine-reactive dye for synthesis of blue-fluorescent biomolecules. The carboxylic acid may be reacted with primary amines on peptides, proteins, modified nucleotides, biopolymers and other amine-containing biomolecules using a carbodiimide like EDAC or DIPC. Carboxylic acids can also be used to synthesize ester-linked conjugates or acid-halide products. 7-Hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin-3-acetic acid may also be used as building block for the synthesis of unique enzyme substrates and as a reference standard for enzymatic substrates synthesized from this dye. 7-Hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin-3-acetic acid is a short-wavelength fluorophore that is optimally excited near 358 nm with emission near 456 nm. The fluorescence of this dye is pH and environment dependent. .
