BAPTA, Tetrasodium salt is a water soluble, cell membrane-impermeant metal chelator that is relatively selective for Ca2+ ions. BAPTA, Tetrasodium salt is commonly used as a high affinity, intracellular Ca2+ buffer for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca2+ and may also be used to buffer extracellular calcium ions and to formulate calcium buffers with defined Ca2+ concentrations. BAPTA, Tetrasodium salt may be loaded into live cells by microinjection, patch pipette infusion, scrape loading, bead loading, or ATP-induced permeabilization. This is the tetrasodium salt form of BAPTA for use in applications that are not perturbed by sodium ions. .
