MAPTAM is a cell membrane-permeant derivative of 5,5’-dimethyl BAPTA, a high-affinity, calcium-selective chelator. MAPTAM is used to control the levels of intracellular Ca2+ for investigations of the role of cytosolic Ca2+. Live cells are passively loaded with MAPTAM by incubation with cell-permeant AM esters. Once internalized, cytosolic esterases cleave the AM esters to liberate the active tetra-carboxylate ligand. .
