Fluorescent probe, 1,3-Bis-(1-pyrene)propane consists of two pyrenes bridged by a three-carbon spacer. This probe is highly sensitive to constraints imposed by its envrionment and it can form excimers and consequently the fluorescence emission wavelength is controlled by intramolecular rather than bimolecular interactions. A fluorescent probe that cab be used as viscosity sensor for interior regions of lipoproteins, membranes, micelles, liquid crystals and synthetic polymers. .
