NBD-C4 is a non-activated, amine-reactive, green-fluorescent dye for the synthesis of green fluorescent biomolecules. The carboxylic acid may be reacted with primary amines on peptides, proteins, modified nucleotides, biopolymers and other amine-containing biomolecules using a carbodiimide like EDAC or DIPC. Carboxylic acids can also be used to synthesize ester-linked conjugates or acid-halide products. NBD-C4 has been used as a low-molecular weight and non-ionic building block for the synthesis of fluorescent ceramide and phospholipid probes, and other unique ester-linked fluorescent probes. NBD-C4 is optimally excited near 465 nm with emission at 536 nm. The fluorescence of this dye is environmentally dependent. .
