CPM is a commonly used thiol-reactive blue-fluorescent dye for covalently labeling thiols on biomolecules. CPM is very weakly fluorescent until the maleimide group reacts with a thiol. CPM’s fluorescence enhancement upon reaction allows the quantification of thiols in biological samples by fluorescence without a cleanup step to remove unreacted dye. CPM’s fast reactivity and selectivity for thiols combined with its fluorescence enhancement upon conjugation make this dye a valuable tool for investigations of membrane protein folding and stability. The thiol conjugates of CPM are excited at 384 nm and emit at 470 nm. .
