A polyanionic fluorescein derivative of fluorescein, green-fluorescent polar tracer that is used for the fluorimetric determination of calcium in the presence of Mg by complexometric titration. It is possibly the best nonfixable, green-fluorescent polar tracer and has used as a tracer in liposomes. . Its fluorescence is nearly independent of pH in the range between 6.5 and 12. The dye can be introduced into cells by microinjection and is useful for cell tracing and for the study of cell membrane integrity and fusion
