Rhodamine B, hexyl ester perchlorate is a cell-permeant orange-fluorescent dye that has applications in staining the functioning mitochondria of live cells with low cytotoxicity. At low concentration loading in live cells, Rhodamine B hexyl ester accumulates in active mitochondria and when loaded at higher concentrations, the endoplasmic reticulum may also be stained. Rhodamine B, hexyl ester is excited near 556 nm and has a fluorescent emission near 578 nm. .
