NBD cholesterol is a green-fluorescent analog of cholesterol where the terminal, alkyl tail of cholesterol is replaced with green-fluorescent NBD dye. This highly lipophilic, live-cell membrane probe is useful for investigations of lipid transport processes and lipid-protein interactions. NBD is optimally excited near 469 nm with fluorescence emission near 537 nm. The NBD fluorophore is non-ionic and is relatively insensitive pH changes, but has an environmental-sensitive excitation and fluorescence. .
