BADAN is a thiol-reactive green-fluorescent dye for labeling thiols on proteins, peptides, and other thiol-containing biomolecules. BADAN yields rugged thioether bonds with thiols and the linkage is stable to complete amino acid analysis. The fluorescence emission of BADAN labeled biomolecules is environmentally sensitive and this property been exploited for investigations of conformational changes, ligand binding, and protein structure. Conjugates of BADAN are excited near 387 nm and have an environmentally sensitive fluorescence emission near 515 nm.
