Description

Resorufin β-D-galactopyranoside is a fluorogenic substrate for β-galactosidase. β-galactosidase is a commonly used reporter to monitor for gene expression in molecular biology. Resorufin β-D-galactopyranoside is essentially non-fluorescent until β-galactosidase enzymatic activity releases the fluorescent dye, resorufin. Unlike fluorescein-based substrates, resorufin β-D-galactopyranoside releases the orange-fluorescent resorufin after a single enzymatic hydrolysis event with fast enzyme kinetics, making this substrate useful for flow cytometry, ELISA, and high throughput screening applications. Resorufin β-D-galactopyranoside may be used to detect β-galactosidase enzymatic activity in live cells after permeabilization or may be used to detect β-galactosidase enzymatic activity in cellular extracts. Enzymatic activity is detected by fluorescence with an excitation near 571 nm and fluorescence emission near 585 nm. Please see other related products at the bottom of this page.
